Just activated your new smartphone or sim card and are yet to memorise your new number?
You have a number of options:
(1) – call up your network provider and ask them to tell you what it is,
(2) – call up someone you know from your number and ask them what it says,
(3) – ask someone you’ve told the number to to read it out to you or, if you’re on Android or iOS,
(4) – save both time and embarrassment by simply checking your settings and fixing it your self.
I will show you how to in a few simple steps:
In Android you can actually just go to your settings, tap “About phone” then “Status”. If you’re on Android 5.1 you’ll have to also tap “SIM status”, otherwise you can just view “My phone number”. See the series of images below for a visual guide:
Step 1. Open the settings app
Step 2. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page and select “About phone”.
Step 3. Tap “Status” from the menu that loads up.
Step 4. Your phone number will be shown about halfway down the resulting page. If you hold down, it’ll be copied to your clipboard.
iPhone / iOS
Alternatively, if you’re on an iPhone you go to your Settings, tap “Phone” and then your number will be displayed right at the top. See below for a step-by-step visual aid.
Step 1. Tap “Settings” to open the settings menu.
Step 2. Scroll down until you see “Mobile”. Tap on this menu item to open up the Mobile menu.
Step 3. Your phone number is the first listing on the followup menu.
Now no-one has to know that you forgot your phone number: no awkward phone calls or questions. Sorted in seconds.
